Consultation on new Awards Standards at NFQ Levels 1-4

14–11–2022

As the national awarding body for further education and training, QQI establish and maintain standards of knowledge, skill and competence for the qualifications that we make. Qualification standards guide providers in the development of programmes and courses to meet the needs of learners, society and the economy. Standards also play an important role in maintaining the consistency and comparability of qualifications over time, and across different providers.

Over the past four years QQI has worked with and learned from experts and practitioners working at the initial levels of the national framework of the qualifications. We have also taken account of national and EU policy developments on lifelong learning, social inclusion and skill formation.

In response, and together with our partners across the further education and training sector we have co-created a suite of twenty new draft qualification standards at levels 1-4 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

These standards are available for public consultation on the QQI website. We are inviting providers, teachers, learners, funders, social partners, advocacy bodies and everyone with an interest in shaping the future of qualifications at these foundational levels of the NFQ to have their say.
