The webinar Ensuring valid, reliable and inclusive assessment in the GenAI era took place on 16 January 2026.

Chaired by Dr Mary-Claire Kennedy (Chair of the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN) and Academic Integrity Lead at the University of Limerick) and featuring presentations by Professor Michael Draper, (Legal Education in the School of Law, Institutional lead for Academic Integrity, Swansea University and co-Chair of the Welsh Integrity and Assessment Network) and Professor Phil Newton (Medical Science Education, Swansea University Medical School), the webinar explored ideas for how higher education can continue to offer assessments and associated awards and credentials that remain valid, reliable and inclusive.

Professor Draper and Professor Newton discussed their recent research on ''widespread use of summative online unsupervised remote (SOUR) examinations in UK higher education: ethical and quality assurance implications" and considered the evidence around continued use (or not) of online exams and written coursework, and some alternatives.
