Recognition of Prior Learning in Higher Education

Across Europe, HEIs are focused on contributing to life-long learning in service to their communities and regions. As a part of European, national, and institutional responses, RPL is an essential tool that meets the needs of citizens by supporting flexible learning paths.

The RPLip project was an event aimed at validation (RPL) practitioners working in teaching, learning, research, policy or management and anyone working at a higher education institution, ministry, national agency or quality assurance agency.

It featured discussions on what has been learned about the successful implementation of RPL in higher education including:

  • going beyond one's role as an individual champion in promoting a strategic, connected and committed institution

  • creating a validation-friendly system, from learning outcomes to guidelines and procedures that build on transparent phases - all through identification, documentation and assessment

  • enabling effective peer learning
