New framework for student engagement

18–02–2021

NStEP, the National Student Engagement Programme, has recently begun work on revising its framework for student engagement in decision-making.

Key changes include revisions to the original ten principles, updates to the drivers and domains of student engagement and the inclusion of enablers of student engagement. The revised framework will also contain some short definition statements for student voice, student engagement and student partnership.

NStEP will offer a number of opportunities early this year to discuss the proposed framework. They will also host collaborative workshops for institutions and students to further discussion on the new framework. Students, staff members, institutions and organisations can also submit a written response by 1st March via this form.

You can read more about the process and download a copy of the discussion paper here.

Work programme for 2021

NStEP has also confirmed a number of exciting new projects for 2021:

  • Having trained over 1300 student representatives in autumn 2020, NStEP has just launched new Student Portal, which will allow NStEP to diversify the training and capacity building options they provide for students.
  • 2021 will also see the conclusion of two projects: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Student Engagement, and Postgraduate Student Engagement.
  • Another significant development, in partnership with the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, will be a short course (digital badge) for staff to explore student engagement.

NStEP will continue to deliver its student training programmes and offer institutional support and development through online workshops in addition to other initiatives this year.
